Spacious bathrooms are one luxury enjoyed with custom-built homes. However, with city apartments, space is maximized in ways that usually compromise bathroom space. This makes decorating crammed bathroom spaces a real challenge. Thankfully, there are some bathroom remodeling tips and tricks that you can do to make your small bathroom a little less claustrophobic and stylish.
Tip #1: Lights, lights and lights.
Light is an important element that never fails to make any space appear larger than it actually is. Allowing the room to take as much natural lighting as possible can do. Illuminate the dark corners of your bathroom. Installing recessed lighting in the ceiling, wall sconces or skylights present a perfect way of adding light to dark bathrooms. Also, if you have your bathroom mirror, complement it with light fixtures on both sides so the mirror can reflect their lights and brighten up the room.
Tip #2: De-clutter.
Sometimes, all crammed spaces need is a little cleanup. Clutter makes small spaces feel even smaller. Organize your bathroom. Just put enough towels and accessories. With decorative accessories, just select one decorative piece instead of using those that come as a multi-piece arrangement. Think of skipping the bathmats. Lastly, consider getting rid of your frosted shower doors to clear out your view of your bathroom. If you can't do without shower doors, then replace your frosted glass bath with clear glass panels. This way, you can see the view all the way to the back to your shower and make your bathroom seem bigger than it actually is.
Tip #3: Mirrors and glasses.
Using reflective and shiny surfaces can do just the trick in opening up bathroom spaces. Installing a mirror in front of your bathroom sink allows your bathroom light fixtures to reflect lights that will illuminate the room without the added expense of installing extra lights. Also, placing a long mirror or two mirrors on the opposite walls of your bathroom gives an illusion of having a never ending space. Mirrors give the illusion of having additional windows.
To spruce up your bathroom, glass tiles will not only further illuminate your room but also add elegant touches to your bathroom remodeling project.
Tip #4: Maximize space.
Make the most of the limited space that you have. Think about replacing all the fixtures that sticks out. Instead of sticking with bulky storage and vanity cabinet, try using stick robe hooks and wall or pedestal-mounted sink. Stick with one storage cabinet or one functional rack and remove all other wall-mounted shelves. The key is creating fluid arrangement of your bathroom, storage. The eye usually stops at anything that sticks out, which then makes the room feel a little claustrophobic.
Tip #5: Paint and Wallpapers.
Using the right color scheme in painting the walls of your bathroom can do just the trick in giving it the illusion of having more space. As a rule of thumb, avoid using strong and bold colors. Choose from among light neutrals, pastels and whites. Also, with wallpapers, avoid using those with busy patterns and heavy contrasts as they tend to break up space.
Of the many tricks in making bathrooms look more spacious, paint and wallpaper presents you with the cheapest option for bathroom remodeling.
With limited bathroom spaces, the key to successful bathroom remodeling is downsizing. Downsize your bathroom fixtures, accessories and clutter. Maximize lighting. This should do the kind of visual magic that will expand your bathroom space and make it look more stylish in every square foot.
