Textured tile can be used in various places throughout the bathroom to establish the decorating style or add interesting details to the decor. Tile comes in a variety of textures, colors, designs and materials that allow you to choose the perfect for the bathroom you envision. Mix different types and colors of tiles throughout the bathroom if want a variety of textures.
The Floor
Textured tile, such as travertine or small circular ceramic tiles, can tickle your feet in the bathroom, while helping prevent falls when the tile gets wet. Stone tiles on the floor can create a rustic or natural feel, while also working in a modern style if you use the same color throughout the bathroom, such as a slate gray color. Terracotta tiles can add to a rustic or Spanish style, while smooth tiles, such as glass or marble, can add a luxurious look and feel. The floor tiles should be able to withstand water and be easy to clean.
The Counter
Textured countertops are not as common as textured tile floors or tub surrounds, though they can add interest and unexpected details to the bathroom. Smaller tiles, such as clay or glass, can be used to create intricate patterns or random mosaics. For example, arrange colored glass shard or small stone featuring different colors or finishes to create the countertop or backsplash. Smoother, such as ceramic, or using a single color will work with modern decor.
The Tub or Shower
The tub or shower floor and surround can be made of textured tiles to create a warm atmosphere that works with a rustic style or creating natural feel that works with various themes or styles, such as a spa-like bathroom. Tiles that look like brick can make you feel like you're showering outside, as will stone-looking. Mix smooth tiles with textured tiles in the same color for a subtle look, such as white ceramic tiles with horizontal row of white tiles with a seashell textured shape extending from the tile for a seashell-themed bathroom.
The Walls
Tiled walls can be overpowering if you use too many colors or patterns. Alternatively, a single color or style can give the bathroom a relaxing feel while adding interest. For example, use large textured stone tiles in the same color as the tiles that make up the counter, floor and tub. Select one wall or a section of the wall to add a pattern with textured tiles, such as spelling out the family name or creating an image of a flower with the tiles. Use the same tiles as the floor for an unusual approach or for simplicity, such as small blue pool tiles for a burst of color in a small bathroom.
