The first common problem most people have is they don't realise where a lot of space is wasted; empty floor space which isn't walked on or bare walls above the sink or toilet are prime locations for an extra bathroom cabinet or unit. If you're unsure about how much space you've got available, simply measure out the dimensions and shop around for cabinets and units which fall within the measurements you took.
Optimising Cabinet Space
Now you have a couple of cabinets installed in your bathroom, they give you an extra bit of space, but you had hoped for more? Chances are there is more space in there, you're just not utilising it correctly which is impacting how much you can store inside the cabinet. Here are a couple of quick tips to make the most of what space you have available...
Install Shelves & Drawers
If by chance you bought a tall bathroom cabinet and it only has a single shelf, you might want to consider adding more inside it. This will enable you to store more things on different levels, obviously keep the lightest products towards the top and the heaviest on the bottom in case the shelves aren't as strong as you'd hoped. You can either install shelves the proper way with a bit of drilling and screwing or if you don't want anything permanent there are shelves which will stick onto the walls using suction pads (obviously these aren't meant for significantly heavy items, but things such as toothbrushes will be ideal to store here).
For certain bathroom units, drawers may be included or optional; if you have the choice, definitely opt for the drawer to be installed. It's much easier to slide out a drawer and have a certain set of items in it rather than fumbling through a mess of things scattered around various locations.
Baskets or Compartments
Obviously when space is very limited you may have to store several types of products in a single place; toothbrushes, spare toilet paper and cleaning supplies for example. If you have all of these squashed into a single bathroom cabinet, it can look extremely messy and get out of hand very quickly.
To avoid this happening, consider segmenting certain items from one another using compartments or baskets. If it didn't come with pre-built compartments, separating groups of items with baskets will be much easier and cheaper to do. Pick up several baskets of a decent size from a local store and begin placing all your cleaning products in one, cosmetics in another and so on. Organise them however you like, but make sure they're all grouped in a method that will easily let you find what you're looking for!
If a modern look bathroom is what you're aiming for, you might do well to consider purchasing some bathroom cabinets
