Is your child an outdoor adventurer? Bring the outdoors inside and create an imaginative playground for your nature loving child with the seven simple ideas outlined in this article.

1. Let your child help you choose a wallpaper border in a rustic theme.

When trying to complete a cabin or lodge theme bedroom you should select wallpaper borders that include elements of fishing, mountain scenes or hunting themes with accents of moose, deer or bears. Wallpaper borders are a quick and cost effective decorating element that can be used to set the theme for your bedroom decor. Your child will love helping you select the overall theme for their special space.

For a truly spectacular finished look, before applying your wallpaper border, paper your walls with a realistic log cabin wallpaper. The log cabin wallpaper has logs running horizontally and gives you the feeling of a true log cabin. Your child will really appreciate this added touch!

2. Coordinate your room with rustic bedding.

Select a simple plaid comforter or flannel bedspread that coordinates with the dominant colors in the wallpaper border that you chose. Burgundy or green themes are popular choices and provide a warm and inviting atmosphere.

3. Expand your theme with inexpensive artwork.

Check your local discount stores for rustic theme artwork at great prices. Look for smaller prints and frames and group the collection together on the wall for added visual interest. Or, take your child outdoors on a leaf hunt, collect different leaves and frame them for a more personalized wall hanging.

4. Add wooden furniture accents.

Look for canoe shaped book shelves or chest at your local flea market or craft store. Wooden furniture accents make wonderful additions to any rustic cabin theme bedroom while being both functional and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

5. Plush stuffed animals create instant accents.

Purchase small stuffed animals like black bears, moose, deer or wolves at local discount or toy stores and use them as decorative accessories around the room. Put them on a chair, spilling out of a wooden toy box, on shelves or atop dressers to bring your theme to life.

6. Add an area rug for a warm inviting feel.

Novelty children's rugs can be found online or in chain discount stores. A rustic theme rug in coordinating plaid or featuring wildlife would be perfect at the side or foot of your child's bed. If you can't find a rug that matches your theme to your liking, a solid color rug that coordinates well with your wallpaper border will do nicely.

7. Bring nature indoors.

Finish off your rustic cabin theme bedroom with pine cones, leaves, and branch accents that you find outside. Use the pine cones as decorative accents and use the leaves or branches behind artwork and on shelves.

Any of these seven ideas, or all of them make it very easy and affordable to transform your child's bedroom into a rustic retreat.
