Pros and Cons of Small Bathroom Vanities

By Jessie T Hosler

Anyone who is facing the task of choosing a vanity cabinet for the bathroom will look at one very important factor. Aside from the color, design and material, the cabinet's size should also be considered. Generally, a small cabinet will be beneficial for many people because of these reasons:

The most important factor that people will be taking into account here is the space available in the bathroom. For those who only have minimal space to work with, a small-sized bathroom vanity cabinet will be essential. There will be no room for a large vanity cabinet. Instead of cramming a bulky furniture inside that room and encroaching on the space that is allotted for other essential bathroom furniture, a small vanity set can come to the rescue. But, for household members who use the bathroom and the vanity set at the same time, a small one can spell chaos.

There are vanity sets that can be mounted on walls. This can further help reduce the space that is used up. Above and below the vanity set, you can create storage spaces for your other bathroom items. You can fit this furniture in a small corner. Take note that your bathroom will not only house your vanity cabinet but also a toilet bowl, a bathtub and a shower area. Therefore, you have to make sure that there is still enough space left for you to comfortably introduce and use these other parts.

In terms of the cost of the furniture, you can surely save a lot. The material used is generally fewer in quantity. And so, it can be assumed that stores will sell most small-sized vanity cabinets at price that is significantly lower than the large varieties.

Cleaning the cabinet will not require so much work. You only have a small area to work with and so you can finish cleaning it after a short time. However, you still have to pay attention to difficult-to-remove dirt that will take the same amount of effort no matter how wide or narrow the area that you have to clean is.

One obvious disadvantage of a small vanity set is the storage space that comes with it. If you are using a lot of bathroom products and devices, you can have some trouble with finding a space to put them into. This means that you might have to add shelves or install hooks on walls. For you, this means more work and even more expenses.

The sink area on a vanity set will also be smaller. This can either result in a small sink or a decent-sized sink. If you get the small one, you will have to endure cleaning up and wiping after your mess and spills afterwards. This can already be considered a lot of work by many people. In the long run, when you have not properly looked after your cabinet, the spills and the moisture can result in the growth or molds and the hastened degradation of your vanity cabinet.
