The bathroom is a sacred place where you spend precious time and take care of the business of nature. Most houses only have two bathrooms and some only have one. Like any homeowner, you want everyone room in the house to look good, and that includes your bathroom. One great way to make a shocking first impression on anyone who enters your bathroom is to add fabric shower curtains with unique prints. Keeping up with the appearance of your bathroom can become a hassle when you have more than one person living under the same roof.

If you really want your bathroom to look good, you have to maintain certain aspects of your bathroom, including curtain rods, cabinets and even the water pipes. What if keeping up with all of these problems really isn't what you're dealing with? Having a small bathroom might be what you're dealing with, and you need to know one thing: "How can I make my bathroom magically appear LARGER!"

You really only need to work on a few areas that will create the illusion of spaciousness.... Pay attention to the ceiling and the walls. One nifty technique is to choose a lighter shade of paint for your walls. When it comes to the ceilings, though a nice mural painting would be cool, stick with white. Keep the wallpaper light also and avoid dark colors in the patterns.

A good choice is to go with small patterns with light colors and a white background. Now for the floors. This goes along with the walls. Just look for a lighter shade and it will create the illusion of space. You'll want to stick with ceramic tiles that aren't very large, measuring between six and eight inches. If you go with large tiles, or smaller tiles, it will just make your bathroom look that much smaller.

If tiling isn't your thing, just cover them up with a rug, but make sure it's light colored. When you're decorating the walls, a full length mirror will magically enlarge the room upon walking in. A great trick that mirrors do is provide reflections that will make the bathroom look huge!

Some small bathrooms will look as though the walls are moving in towards you, like a scene from Star Wars, but mirrors will help change all that. One significant factor in making the most of your small bathroom is lighting. Using energy efficient bulbs is your best option. Upon moving into my current house, my power company gave me some free ones, just for filling out a survey. These light bulbs are awesome, mostly because they last 10 times longer than regular bulbs and the lighting helps make your bathroom look bigger. Having a window will help with light also, allowing natural daylight to illuminate your room and create a sense of spaciousness.

If you do have windows, be sure to take the curtains down so as to allow that light to shine in. Now for the most important aspect of small bathroom designs: Fixtures. Though replacing a tub may not be an option, measure it to see how big it is. To give the room a bit more space, the tube should only be about sixty by thirty two inches. When it comes to a sink, you can add space and elegance with a bathroom pedestal sink. With a pedestal sink, you'll have no cabinets underneath, give you loads of space. If there are any other cabinets, get rid of them. A great way to save space and add style is to use glass shelves instead. Be sure to keep the bathroom clean by getting all the toiletries and dirty clothes up of the floor.

Use an over the toilet shelf to keep most of your items on, this will greatly increase space. One big space killer is one of necessity... the door. If possible, try to install a sliding door to save lots of space. All in all, spending a lot of money isn't the solution. Just make small adjustments to make the most of your small bathroom.
