Creating a stylish train bedroom theme that your child will adore is as simple as counting from one to seven when you follow the easy ideas outlined in this article.

1. Use a train mural as a focal point.

Train wall murals can be found online and are easy to apply to smooth surface walls. One of the most popular train mural designs for children would be the Thomas the Train Wall Mural in primary colors of red, blue and yellow.

2. Select a companion wall border.

There are several Thomas the Tank Engine wall borders that coordinate with the wall mural that was mentioned above. To help bring the theme to life, try adding a train wall border around the perimeter of your room at the ceiling level.

3. Use inexpensive wooden furniture.

You can find inexpensive wood furniture pieces at garage sales, local discount furniture stores and thrift stores for next to nothing. Bring new life to these pieces by giving them a coat of fresh paint and using the primary colors as accents on the furniture knobs. Look for smaller pieces that can serve as a nightstand or dresser and armoire pieces.

4. Purchase a solid blue or blue striped comforter.

A simple blue or blue striped comforter will set the stage for your design theme. You can accent the bedding with decorative throw pillows that include a train theme. This is easy to do by finding throw pillows that already include a train design or by purchasing solid throw pillows at your local discount store and then accenting them with homemade designs. Simply visit your local fabric shop and purchase a yard or two of decorative train theme fabric. Cut out the trains and sew the accents onto your throw pillows. Place your pillows onto the bed to help balance your theme.

5. Use posters as cost effective wall accents.

A simple way to bring the theme to your room would be adding posters or signs to the walls around your room and above the dresser. You can add your own frames to match if you use posters. If you find train signs, you can add some of your own touches with paint to make them fit your son's train theme.

6. Make your own artwork.

Try using some of the leftover decorative fabric that you have purchased and frame it with inexpensive frames that you have painted to match your train theme.

7. Finish the room with decorative accessories.

This is the point where you can get very creative. Add pieces to the room from your son's childhood; add Lego trains, toy trains, engineer caps, conductor teddy bears, train tracks, and train puzzles to complete your theme. Let your child help you by adding his favorite train pieces to the room.

Any of these seven ideas, or all of them, make it very easy and affordable to transform your child's bedroom into a land of traveling adventure.
