It would be ideal to have nice big rooms in your house, but the fact is that many people have to make do with less space than they would perhaps like. Many homes have small bathrooms, simply because the bathroom is often built to be functional area. However, having a small bathroom need not exclude you from realising your bathroom design ideas and giving it a new lease of life. Remodeling a smaller bathroom just requires a bit more thought and planning to maximise the available space.

Like all remodelling tasks, it is important to carefully measure the room and work out just how much space you have to work with. This is especially the case with a small bathroom. This will give you an idea of the type of bathroom fixtures you will and will not be able to incorporate in to your design plans.

Look for bathroom fixtures and that incorporate space-friendly features. Examples are recessed shelving for storing items commonly found lying around the bathroom, or sliding doors on any cabinets

One area that can make a big difference is the color of the room. Using dark colors can have the effect of making the room look smaller and more cramped, so it's wise to go for lighter paint colors that will allow the room to breathe, so to speak. Various shades of white or pastel colors are ideal for this. It is also wise to keep the design simple, as too many colors or patterns can overwhelm the look of a small room.

Mirrors and lighting are a great combination in having the ability to create an illusion of space. Mirrors can seem to open up the room and give it a new dimension. Bathroom lighting has the potential to add a sense of depth, and can have a dramatic effect on the look and ambience on the room. Recessed lighting also has the benefit of avoiding any protruding lighting fixtures, leading to a more uncluttered look.

As long as you accept the limited space of your small bathroom and work out the best way to utilize this space, there is no reason why you can't add a bit of luxury and style to it.

If your bathroom is on the small side, and you need more advice on how to transform it,, then take a look at http://bathroomdesignstoday.com for more small bathroom design ideas.
